United Progressive Fraternity
Well-known Adelaide Progressive Rock group Unitopia have decided to call it a day. However the music lives on in the newly formed United Progressive Fraternity (UPF). So, who are UPF?
What UPF stands for: Mark’s vision is to make UPF a ‘band for the people’; a collective concept, a kind of ‘revolving door’, where members who have something they would like to share whether it be musical ideas, or a chance to have musical input, artistic or thoughts and viewpoints on a range of all things whether they be musical, philosophical, theatrical, social/environmental comment, can contribute towards a progressive family, a Fraternity.
Debut: The announcement of United Progressive Fraternity is marked by the release of ‘The Water’ a collaboration with UPF and Jon Anderson. This beautiful song’ opens and ends with the sound of thunder and rain which leads into exquisitely middle-eastern flavours interspersing with a punchy orchestral chorus and featuring the unmistakable dulcet tones of Jon Anderson. The song progresses into a dramatic sequence with some heavy guitar riffs supplied by Matt. The production is flawless, Mark’s voice is as impressive as ever, and the talent that these musicians combined possess is clearly apparent.’ The video was carefully crafted by renowned prog designer Ed Unitsky.
Current work and up and coming tour: From now until September UPF will be busily preparing their debut album ‘Fall in Love with the World in time for its release to coincide with the Summers End Progressive Rock Festival at Gwent in Wales this year, where they will be performing on the first leg of their UK/Europe tour. However they are keen to point out that they will also be playing much loved and familiar songs from their back catalogue of Unitopia songs so loyal Unitopia fans will not be disappointed!
The Artwork: With all good prog music comes imaginative and inspiring artwork. With great good fortune, Mark has forged a long-standing relationship with the hugely talented Artist, Ed Unitsky, whose artwork has graced album covers of bands including The Tangent, Manning, The Flower Kings, and of course, Unitopia. He has created some truly beautiful artwork for the new album and of course, is instrumental in the creation of The Water video.
